Photography

Do you have a project in mind for your photography? Perhaps you like walking and taking photographs as a reminder of your journey? Or perhaps you want to achieve a different style or look to your portfolio? Whatever your interests sharing your adventure is rewarding and enlightening for others.

The question is… what can we do to inspire and support you?

Dave Horscroft shares his thoughts…

Having previously done Hadrians Wall with one of our sons, and the West Highland Way and Coast to Coast ( St Bee to Robin Hoods Bay ) with a friend, we decided that the 630 mile South West Coast Path would be an interesting project.

As with all these walks a fair bit of planning was involved, and I always like to buy the relevant OS maps and a guide book, which combined with the National Trail websites help to give an idea of daily mileages, stopping points, accommodation etc. The SWCP also involves a number of ferry crossings, so checking seasonal timetables and tide times was also important.

In our particular case with the SWCP ( and Offas Dyke and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path which we have since completed ) we decided how far we would aim to walk on each holiday and rented a cottage somewhere around the midpoint which would be our base. Jo and my friends wife, would then drop us at our start point each day and pick us up at the end of the day. This meant we only needed to carry a day bag with our food water and waterproofs etc as well of course my camera, strapped to my front for easy access. The photos I take are really only as a record of our walks, as there is not really time to spend too long looking for the perfect picture.

We have seen many beautiful and spectacular landscapes on our walks and although the walking is sometimes quite challenging all the effort is worthwhile. Even the days when the weather is less than favourable, and photography not easy, add to the variety and interest of the walks.
