About Salisbury Photography Club

Salisbury Photography Club is a a friendly and inclusive community for photographers of all experience levels. We meet regularly throughout the season, creating opportunities to learn, share ideas and enjoy photography together.

What We Do

Guest Speakers

SPC hosts ten quality guest speakers each season, covering a range of topics aligned to our members interests.

Competitions

We run regular competitions across the season for both printed images and projected digital images (PDIs). This includes open subject leagues, and themed trophies.

Special Interest Groups

These informal groups are organised by members and give an opportunity to get hands-on practice of particular genres or techniques outside of the club timetable. Current groups are our “Nightjars” night photography group, and our studio portrait group.

Club Nights

Our club nights are more interactive, with small group discussions, hands-on workshops, and member talks.

Inter Club Events

Our club participates in a number of competitions within our wider league structure, as well as “friendlies” with our neighbours - all members are welcome to attend these events.

Club Trips/Outings

SPC hosts a number of trips and outings each year, with recent locations including London, Bath and Bristol. We also run outings or photowalks closer to home, especially through the summer “off-season”.

Member Resources

Members also have access to the club library, which includes a variety of books to borrow throughout the season. These books were kindly donated to the club by the family of late member, David Miesner.

Membership and Visitors

New members are always welcome at SPC. Whether you’re new to photography or have years of experience, we aim to provide a friendly and supportive environment where people can develop their skills and share their enjoyment of photography.

Visitors are also welcome to attend meetings. This gives you the chance to experience the club and meet our members before deciding if SPC is the right fit for you, or perhaps just to attend for a guest speaker of particular interest.

Our History

Salisbury Photography Club, as we know it today, was first set up in 1936; although there are references to Salisbury Camera Clubs as far back as 1904 and even 1895! Initially, with only a few members, lectures were given on the art and practice of photography by well-known photographers of the day. The earliest on record was called “Rising to the Occasion” by Mr W.D. Welford, F.R.P.S - A fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. You can learn more about the history of the club here.
