First Open Print

Our first print competition of the season was a great success, with Sue Sibley stepping in at short notice to judge after our original judge was unfortunately unable to attend.

There were 51 prints on show, covering a wonderfully varied range of subjects, genres and styles. Sue took us through the images in her characteristically engaging and entertaining style, sharing plenty of humour along the way as well as some useful thoughts on what makes an image that stops her in her tracks!

She found the overall standard very high, resulting an impressive seven 10s! You can see the top scoring images in our competition gallery here.

Sue also talked about the importance of viewpoint and how the way we choose to photograph a subject can make all the difference. And although yellow isn't her favourite colour, one almost entirely yellow image was good enough to make it onto her shortlist!

There were plenty of photographs held back for special mention, and congratulations go to everyone who achieved a top score. In particular, congratulations to our new members who did so well — including Sue's personal favourite image of the evening!
