Welcome Back!

This week saw the start of our 26-27 season, which as usual will run to around the end of May.  Emma, freshly enthroned as our new chairperson, took the stage for the first time, welcomed everyone back and also introduced our visiting prospective members to the company. She discussed the results of the summer's member survey, and in particular our plans to do more to support development of people's photography skills, via club night sessions or photography "buddies", and also confidence in their photography though photo-sharing evenings on Zoom. This is something I’ve wanted more opportunities to do for a while, as I really enjoy the chance to chat about photographs in smaller groups, so I really hope this takes off.

There followed an overview of the planned programme, primarily talking through the guest speakers and their subjects, and then introducing and describing the club's various open and themed  photo competitions, along with planned competition events with other clubs, including the wonderfully named "Intimate landscapes". No, no, not that sort of intimate, she says, borrowing Tony’s joke!

The club will also still be holding its usual exhibition of members’ prints at Salisbury library, but this season it has had to be displaced from our traditional January event to a March one by the town's 800-year anniversary celebrations taking over!  Well, so long as they only do that every 100 years or so!

The second half of the night, after tea and lots of chatty catch-ups, was given over to members showing and talking through some of the photos they had taken over the summer.  As usual there was cosmopolitan mix including landscapes, portraits, macros, sport and street styles, and it was good to see people have been keeping busy despite the heat.
