Martin Down Trip

On Monday evening, a group of Salisbury Photography Club members braved the heatwave and headed to Martin Down for a summer evening photo walk.

Covering around 350 hectares, Martin Down is a nationally important chalk downland close to Salisbury, and is famous for its colourful wildflowers, rich insect life and wide variety of birds. The warm evening provided plenty of photographic opportunities, and the temperatures certainly seemed to agree with the butterflies, which were fully charged and rarely stayed still for more than a second—keeping everyone on their toes and providing a good test of both patience and autofocus!

It was an enjoyable evening of photography, good company and the chance to appreciate one of the finest chalk grassland sites in southern England.
